Who Needs a Same-Day Immigration Medical Exam?
An immigration medical exam (IME) is a mandatory health examination required by IRCC for many applicants. IMMEDEX provides same-day exams (subject to availability) for applicants across these pathways:
Express Entry Applicants
IRCC requires you to complete an upfront immigration medical exam before submitting your PR application. IMMEDEX completes your Express Entry medical exam in one visit so you can submit on time.
Work Permit Applicants
Many work permit applicants need an exam, especially those in health care, child care, or education, or depending on where they have lived. An upfront exam before applying is also an option.
Study Permit Applicants
International students often need an IME depending on their length of stay, countries lived in, and field of study. An upfront exam can help you avoid delays before your study permit deadline.
Family Sponsorship Applicants
Spouses, common-law partners, dependent children, and parents or grandparents being sponsored all require an IME. Once you receive IRCC instructions, IMMEDEX can complete the exam the same day.
Permanent Residence (PR) Applicants
All PR applicants, plus family members not immigrating with them, must complete an IME. IMMEDEX supports all PR streams with a fast, all-in-one exam and direct eMedical submission.
Not sure whether you need an IME? Bring your IRCC instructions or medical form (IMM 1017) to your appointment. Our team is happy to help you understand the process.
How a Same-Day Immigration Medical Exam Works at IMMEDEX
Getting your immigration medical exam done at IMMEDEX is simple and stress-free. Here is the step-by-step process from booking to submission.
01
Book Your Appointment
Reserve your spot online, by phone at 647-368-6588, or by WhatsApp. Ask about same-day availability. For the best chance of securing a same-day appointment, contact us early in the day.
02
Prepare Your Documents
Gather your passport (or other government-issued photo ID), your IRCC medical form or appointment letter if you received one, a list of your current medications, any records of significant medical conditions, your eyeglasses or contact lenses if you wear them, and any proof of past vaccinations. See the "What to Bring" section below.
03
Complete Your Exam in One Visit
At our Scarborough clinic, your IRCC-approved panel physician reviews your medical history and completes your physical examination. Depending on your age, your blood test, urine test, and chest X-ray are completed on-site the same day, all in one building.
04
We Submit to IRCC Through eMedical
IMMEDEX submits your completed exam directly to IRCC through eMedical, typically within 7–10 business days. We notify you once your case has been submitted.
05
You Receive Your Proof
Your panel physician provides a document confirming you completed your immigration medical exam, such as the information printout sheet or, for Express Entry applicants, the IMM 1017B Upfront Medical Report. Keep this proof for your records and upload it with your application if required.
Note
The panel physician does not make decisions about your application. IRCC makes the final decision on every immigration medical exam. IMMEDEX completes your exam accurately and submits it promptly so IRCC has everything it needs.

What to Bring to Your Immigration Medical Exam
Bringing the right documents keeps your appointment fast and avoids delays. For your immigration medical exam at IMMEDEX, please bring:
Valid photo identification: your passport is strongly recommended. Other approved IDs include a national identity card, an original birth certificate for children under 18, or other government-issued documents accepted by IRCC.
Your IRCC medical form or appointment letter: such as your IMM 1017 form or email confirmation, if IRCC sent you one.
A list of your current medications, including dosages.
Medical records for any significant or existing health conditions, including past reports or test results, if you have them.
Eyeglasses or contact lenses: if you wear them, so your vision can be checked accurately.
Proof of previous vaccinations: bring any vaccination records you have. This is encouraged but not mandatory.
Children and dependents being examined should bring their own identification. If you are unsure what applies to you, visit our Exam Preparation Page or contact us before your appointment.

The full exam, including the physical, blood test, and chest X-ray, is completed in a single visit. To get the earliest possible appointment, call or message IMMEDEX early in the day at 647-368-6588.
Can I get an IRCC medical exam the same day?
Yes. IMMEDEX offers same-day IRCC immigration medical exam appointments when slots are available. Your IRCC-approved panel physician completes the exam in one visit, and your results are submitted to IRCC through eMedical afterward, typically within 7 to 10 business days. Same-day availability is not guaranteed, so booking early is recommended.
How long does the immigration medical exam appointment take?
Most immigration medical exam appointments take roughly one to two hours, depending on the tests required and clinic volume that day. This includes your medical history review, physical examination, blood and urine tests, and chest X-ray, all completed on-site at IMMEDEX in one visit.
Does IMMEDEX submit results through eMedical?
Yes. IMMEDEX submits your immigration medical exam results directly to IRCC through eMedical, the secure electronic system used by panel physicians. Submission typically takes 7 to 10 business days, and IMMEDEX notifies you once your case has been submitted. Lab results may occasionally take a little longer.
Do I need an upfront medical exam?
You need an upfront medical exam if you want to complete your immigration medical exam before submitting your application. As of August 21, 2025, IRCC requires Express Entry permanent residence applicants to complete an upfront immigration medical exam and upload proof with their online application. An upfront exam is also available for many work, study, and visitor applicants. For most family sponsorship and other PR applications, IRCC sends medical instructions after you apply.
What documents do I need to bring to my immigration medical exam?
Bring a valid passport or government-issued photo ID, your IRCC medical form or appointment letter if you received one, a list of your current medications, records of any significant medical conditions, your eyeglasses or contacts if you wear them, and any proof of previous vaccinations.
Can I book my immigration medical exam online?
Yes. You can book your immigration medical exam with IMMEDEX online, by phone at 647-368-6588, or by WhatsApp. There is nothing to pay until you arrive, and IMMEDEX accepts cash, credit card, debit card, and e-transfer.
Is there an immigration medical exam clinic near me in the GTA?
IMMEDEX is located at 520 Ellesmere Rd, Unit 405, Scarborough, ON, and serves applicants across the Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto, North York, Markham, Ajax, and Pickering. The clinic is easy to reach by major highways and public transit.
What does the immigration medical exam include?
An immigration medical exam includes a review of your medical history, a physical examination, blood and urine tests, and, depending on your age, a chest X-ray. At IMMEDEX, every part of the exam is completed under one roof on the same day. The panel physician does not examine the genital or rectal area, as these are not part of the immigration medical exam.
How much does a same-day immigration medical exam cost?
Immigration medical exam fees vary by clinic and the tests required. IMMEDEX exam prices range from $0 for refugees with valid ID up to $275 CAD, which generally covers the physical examination, chest X-ray, and required blood and urine tests. See the Exams and Prices page for current rates.
How long are immigration medical exam results valid?
Immigration medical exam results are valid for 12 months. If you do not arrive in Canada within that period, IRCC may require you to complete another exam. Completing your IME close to your application or travel date helps you stay within the validity window.
Can my family members get their immigration medical exam the same day?
Yes. IMMEDEX can examine families together, often in the same visit, subject to availability. If your application includes family members, including those not travelling with you, they may also need an immigration medical exam. Let our team know how many people need an exam when you book so we can plan your appointment.
Do I need a medical exam for a work permit or study permit?
Many work permit and study permit applicants need an immigration medical exam. Whether you need one depends on how long you plan to stay in Canada, the countries you have lived in or travelled to, and the type of job or study program. Applicants working in jobs where public health must be protected, such as health care, child care, or school settings, generally need an exam.
Can I fail an immigration medical exam?
The term “fail” is not typically used. The immigration medical exam checks whether a health condition could pose a public health or safety risk or place excessive demand on Canada’s health and social services. The panel physician records your results, but IRCC, not the physician, makes the final decision on your application.
