Before booking your immigration medical exam, most applicants want to know the same thing: how much will this cost? The fee for an Immigration Medical Exam (IME) in Canada varies depending on your age, the tests required, and the clinic you choose. Understanding what is included in the base fee, and what may be billed separately — can help you plan and avoid surprises.

What Is Typically Included in an IME Fee?

Most panel physician clinics charge a fee that covers:

• A complete physical examination by the panel physician.
• Urinalysis (urine test) to check for signs of kidney disease or diabetes.
• Serology (blood tests), including HIV and syphilis screening — required for applicants 15 years and older.

The chest X-ray, required for applicants 11 years and older, may or may not be included in the base fee depending on the clinic. Always confirm this when booking.

What Factors Affect the Price?

• Age: Children require fewer tests, so fees are typically lower. Blood tests begin at age 15; chest X-ray begins at age 11.
• Number of tests required: Older applicants or those with specific health histories may need additional follow-up tests.
• Specialist referrals: Billed separately if the panel physician determines they are needed.
• Clinic location: Panel physician clinics set their own fees independently.

Who Gets an IME at No Cost?

Eligible refugees and asylum seekers covered under Canada's Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) may receive their immigration medical exam at no cost. At Immedex, qualifying refugees pay $0. Bring your documentation and our staff will confirm eligibility.

Does IRCC Reimburse the IME Fee?

No. IRCC does not cover or reimburse the cost of your immigration medical exam, regardless of the outcome of your application. The exam fee is non-refundable once services have been rendered.
