Appointment Recalls & Furtherance Services

At IMMEDEX, we offer Recall and Furtherance services to ensure your immigration medical exam process is seamless and fully compliant with IRCC requirements.

Recall Appointment

A Recall occurs when your Panel Physician identifies abnormalities during your medical exam, such as issues with your chest X-ray or blood work. If this happens, our clinic will contact you to schedule a recall appointment for a follow-up and/or to discuss the findings. Please note, an additional fee may apply.

Furtherance

Occasionally, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) may request further tests after your medical exam, which is referred to as a “Furtherance.” In such cases, the IRCC will advise you to contact our clinic to book a follow-up appointment with your original Panel Physician. An extra fee may apply.

What is An Immigration Medical Exam?

An Immigration Medical Exam is a mandatory health examination required by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for individuals applying for certain visas, permanent residency, or refugee status. The exam is conducted by an IRCC Accredited Panel Physician and includes a physical exam, blood tests (for HIV and syphilis), urine tests (for protein, glucose, and blood), and a chest X-ray (to check for tuberculosis).

Can I fail an Immigration Medical Exam?

While the term “fail” is not typically used, certain health conditions can make a person inadmissible to Canada. The Immigration Medical Exam assesses whether an applicant has a condition that could pose a public health risk, such as untreated tuberculosis, or a condition that could place excessive demand on Canada’s health and social services. The decision is made by the IRCC, not the Panel Physician.

How long does it take to get the results of an Immigration Medical Exam?

The results of an Immigration Medical Exam typically take about 1 to 2 weeks to be processed. However, the timeline can vary depending on the IRCC Accredited Panel Physician’s office, the specific tests required, and whether additional medical information is needed. The results are submitted directly to the IRCC by the Panel Physician.

How much does an Immigration Medical Exam cost? Are there any extra costs for specific lab tests or X-rays?

The cost of an Immigration Medical Exam varies by location and the IRCC Accredited Panel Physician conducting the exam. IMMEDEX exam prices range from $0 (refugee with valid ID) to $265 CAD. This cost usually covers the physical examination, chest X-ray, and required blood and urine tests. It’s advisable to confirm the exact price with the Panel Physician’s office when booking your appointment.

Can further testing or follow-ups be required by the Physician Panel? If so, what are the additional fees?

Your Panel Physician may recall you for an Appointment, for different reasons, which will be at the extra cost of $40. If you report or if the doctor detects a serious medical condition during your immigration exam or in lab and X-ray results, additional testing by our physician panel may be required. The cost of the Furtherance is at $90 CAD.

Are there any government or refugee programs that cover the cost of the immigration medical exam and any necessary further testing?

Yes, there are specific programs that cover the cost of the immigration medical exam and any necessary further testing for refugees. If you have valid identification and are recognized as a refugee, the cost of your immigration medical exam at IMMEDEX will be 0$, as it will be covered and funded by the government program.
